As a child I remember, whenever I used to be sick the doctor uncle used to prescribe me some pills and a liquid vitamin Syrup….. which had iron and a many different vitamin types printed on it. I used to wonder why every time I need to have this.
Now I understand that vitamins play a very important role in a proper development of our body. Lack of vitamins stops growth and can lead to many disease.
Vitamin A for example is good for our eyesight. Lack of it lead to poor vision, night blindness. Vitamin A also help in keeping our teeth strong. It is found in carrot, cabbage, mint, fenugreek leaves, mango and butter.
Vitamin B is important for body and muscles development. Lack of Vitamin B lead to weakness in muscles. It is found in cabbage, carrots , milk, green leafy vegetables and fermented food.
Vitamin C is needed to develop better immunity. Lack of this leads to scurvy, body pain, mouth ulcer and pale looking body. It is found mainly in citrus fruits like lemon, orange and aamla.
Vitamin D is needed for bone development. Lack of vitamin D lead to bone disease, jaundice, poor or abnormal development of bone. Vitamin D is found in Sunlight, cod liver oil and green vegetables. The easiest way to get Vitamin D is standing in sunlight for 15-20 minutes.
Vitamin E is good for skin and reproductive system. Lack of it lead to problems in reproduction. It is found in green leafy vegetables, cornflour, green pea.
Vitamin K is required for producing new blood in the body.it is mainly found in cabbage, spinach, tomato and soya beans.
Most of the daily requirement of vitamins is fulfilled if we have food enriched with vitamins and we need not require supplements. However when ever we fall sick or have food which is devoid of vitamins we may require an additional supplement (only after an advice from any doctor).
