You may be surprised to hear that there are different types of bathing. As a lay man, by bathing we only mean taking shower, and applying soap & shampoo. But according to Indian Ayurveda, there are different types of bathing and these can be very refreshing and can cure many health problems without any medication.
Kati bath – It is very beneficial for people having stomach problems. Stomach problems usually lead to other health problems in the body so it is important to control it in the beginning. For kati bath a bath tub is filled with water. The level of water should be such that the lower portion of the body till stomach should be covered by water when the person will sit in the tub.
The water should be lukewarm. In the beginning the person should sit for 5-10 minutes in the water and then the duration should be increased to 30 minutes. Take a towel and rub the lower portion below the naval in right to left and then left to right way. This helps to take out the undigested food via excretion. After the procedure. Cover the body with a towel and sleep for 5 minutes. Afterwards walk or do some light exercises to maintain the body temperature.
This bath helps in case of constipation and indigestion.
Paad bath – Paad bath, as the very name suggests is good for legs and feet related problems.. For this fill a bucket with a little hot water ( the temperature should be bearable) and another bucket with normal water. Add a spoonful of salt and lemon juice in the hot water. Now immerse your feet in the hot water bucket and wrap your body with a towel and sit on a chair in a relaxed position. When the temperature of the hot water comes to normal then take out your feet and immerse in the normal water bucket. It takes around 20-30 minutes. This help in relieving stress, any pain in feet or ankle are, leg pain, heaviness oh head, cough and headaches.
Steam bath – Steam bath is very popular in spa and gym. They have proper rooms where steam is ejected and the entire body is relaxed. Steam bath should be taken sans delicate body parts like eyes and it is not recommended for people who are not physically strong or have been going through any illness.
