Have you ever seen a person taking a nap while travelling in a car or bus or drowsing in a seminar or a sales presentation? I know the answer will be yes and most of the time we show sympathy thinking that he will be tired.
Good sleep is necessary for a healthy life. Lack of adequate sleep disturbs us and we cannot perform our daily work. Usually we sleep in night and work during the day. In recent researches in Russia it has been found that wake up and sleep cycle actually work in different way than what is taken for granted.
As per these studies if a person takes a nap while travelling in a bus or train or while working in the office then it is not surprising. It does not mean that the person is too tired but it is due to his sleep cycle. As per these studies a person should sleep thrice during 24 hours and it can be at any time, it need not be in the afternoon or night only.
Adequate sleep is also guided by age factor. New born baby may sleep for 15-16 hours while adolescents sleep for 10 hours. An adult may sleep for 8-9 hours whereas old people may take small naps throughout day as many old people have sleeping disorder in night.
For good health a person should sleep at least 8 hours. It has been observed that people who sleep for 8 hours are ambitious and fit. They are more social and try to solve problems in life .it is also found that people who sleep for 9 hours or more and usually introvert, are usually lethargic and have low motivation to perform any work.
Apart from this if a person remains awake for continuous 30 hours then he will not be able to see anything clearly, his vision will blur, he may have blackouts or he may faint also. More than this if a person does not sleep for more than 200 hours then it will affect his brain functioning and he may loose his mind. People who do not get adequate sleep cannot perform his work properly and will get tired very soon.
It is also said that the sleeping room should be slightly cold as it help in deep and comfortable sleep. Sleep in an Air conditioned room is better than in a non Ac room and similarly we sleep better in winter than in summers. The reason behind this is that in cold room or cold temperature the body needs heat and oxygen . For this it is important to be calm and take deep breath, which in turn help in sound sleep.
While we sleep we have some natural body reactions like lack of saliva generation, low blood pressure, contraction of cornea, lack of tension, relaxing of muscles etc.
Last but not the least a person should sleep at least for four and half hours in a day to survive.
