It is celebration time in Sengupta’s house. Mr. Sukumar Sengupta, the head of the Sengupta family, has been elected as the MLA once again, after 5 years in the Tollygunj area of South Kolkata. Mr. Sukumar Sengupta is a highly respected man in the area, and was an MLA for that area five years ago.
Five years ago, while he was going for a morning walk, he felt a sharp pain in his chest and was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a heart blockage. The Doctor advised him to take rest and avoid unnecessary stress.
Due to family pressure he did not contest for his seat, and the party lost. Today with his victory, Mr. Sengupta not only won the politically but also won the battle of his life. This was only possible by his, and his family’s, fierce determination to overcome his heart condition.
Preventing, or stopping the gradual increasing of blockage is a little different than reversal. Reversal means the blockages should be decreased over time. That means 80% should become 78%. This reduces the chances of a heart attack to almost nil, and also gives relief from angina (chest pain.)
The best way to go about this is to remove the 15 factors/ causes of blockage formation like: cholesterol, triglycerides, high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking. For example: the range of dangerously high cholesterol is from 130-200 mg/dl. We should bring it to below 130 mg/dl, and supply almost no cholesterol to the body by cutting down on animal fats. Similarly, zero cholesterol oil cooking should be used instead of traditional oils. The same thing has to be done for all fifteen factors. It is like closing all the holes in a drum if we want to fill it up with water.
Several research studies have shown that the reversal of heart disease is actually possible. The most notable of the studies are from Dr. Dean Ornish from San Francisco, California, United States. He showed with a special angiography that heart blockages may be reversed. He emphasized that for reversal people, moderate changes are not adequate, drastic changes are required.
Now a days, many doctors advice for change lifestyle. It is such a way that heart attacks, bypass surgery or angioplasty can be avoided.
Allopathic medicines may be useful in reducing: angina pain, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood in the short term, but for reversal of the condition one needs to follow a disciplined life style and slowly minimize the intake of these medicines.
