Most of us exercise either to achieve a personal goal to be slim and fit or to loose weight, or at times due to family, social or professional pressure. When we see positive results, we keep exercising, but when the results are not up to our expectation we tend to loose our enthusiasm and motivation to exercise.
That’s when you need to understand the monotony is the demotivational factor. Whenever you feel that you are getting bored of your monotonous exercise routine, try to change your workout pattern – add new steps or do different steps on different days of the week. Alternatively to pep up your motivation hire a trainer and if that can prick your pocket just find a workout buddy and exercise with your friends/partner.
You can try some of the following tips to keep up your motivation to exercise-
Focus on your goal
The goal that you want to achieve is very important to keep you going. You must have a goal that you really want to achieve. Create a plan to achieve this goal & keep track of your progress on a weekly basis .
Plan out your exercise as per your body & fitness level
It is important to start slow and progress steady. We see many people who have lot of enthusiasm, jump start during the initial few day and often overdo/over stress their bodies. As a result, they feels tired and weak the whole day and at times they may also fall sick. Such situation can kill you enthusiasm to exercise. When you are just starting you must rest for 10 minutes after every 20 minutes of exercise. Also, you can exercise on alternate days so that you give your body enough time to recover.
Be careful about what you are eating
Food and exercise go hand to hand. If you are working out regularly and at the same time binging on fast food you will not be able to stay fit. Similarly, if you are exercising rigorously and not taking enough fluid, carbohydrates & protein you will be exhausted. People who exercise regularly should take nutritious and balanced food. Include proteins such as milk, soya bean, lentils, chicken and eggs in your daily diet. Carbohydrates & Proteins give your body the extra energy required during exercise. You must also increases your fluid intake since we loose a lot of body fluid in the form of sweat , when we exercise. Lack of fluid in your body will make you tired and exhausted, in extreme case you may even faint. You can drink fresh fruit juices, coconut water , lime juice and other drinks that are natural and low in sugar.Stay away from any aerated drinks.
Exercise with friends or partners
Working out at your local fitness club is great idea, because you can get to see other people exercising, which will motivate you . People who go to clubs or neighbourhood gyms for exercising usually stick to their routine for a longer period of time ,than people who workout at home.
Bring varieties in your workout
Following the same set of exercise can be boring, try to bring varieties in your daily routine. You can do various combination of cardio, aerobics and dance to keep your body fit. Once or twice a week you can take a break from workout and practice yoga or meditation. This will increase your concentration & focus, resulting in a stronger determination to stick to your routine and achieve your fitness goals.
Think positive
Your emotions and your attitude can contribute a lot to your health. Some people jump start their exercise routine with enthusiasm ,but after a couple of weeks they loose their steam ,when they do not find any positive result. Ultimately they quit without trying hard enough.Thinking positive and believing in what you are doing is important to achieve results. If you have negative thoughts about quitting then take a break and try to practice yoga or meditation.
