Generally people think that those who are fat eat too much, but now in recent researches it has been proved that people who are slim are more flexible and are physically active and hence they can digest whatever that they eat. At the same time fat people are more lethargic and have trouble digesting their food easily.
Our body uses the energy derived from our food in two ways. Firstly food provides us energy that enable us to speak, walk, express our emotions, help us move, etc. Energy expended in this way is the Basic metabolic rate(BMR).
Secondly the body uses energy from food to perform other task needed for our survival. An adult requires only 300 kcal, if he is not doing any physical or mental work.To support his basic metabolic rate he requires 1400 kcal, so in total a person requires only 1700Kcal.If he or she eats food which will give him more than 1700Kcal, then this excess energy will be transformed into fat and will get accumulated in his body.
The moment a person’s physical and mental activities increase, the need for more calories will also increase. The person will feel hungry and will be able to digest more food even though he has eaten more than his or her usual diet. Thus we find that people actively engaged in sports are slim and fit even if they eat a lot of food.
Many people prefer dieting to exercise in order to be fit. Initially with dieting the body gets less calories and the person feel that he or she is loosing weight. But dieting has to be followed by exercise if the person wants to burn off the excess fat in his or her body. Dieting can only help in preventing additional calories getting accumulated in our body, but what about the calories which have already been accumulated in our body? Also, exercise can help in toning the body, strengthening the muscles, promoting good blood circulation and keeping the body flexible.
Too much dieting can have an adverse effect on our basic metabolic rate. This will make the person feeling weak and exhausted. Exercise can help in increasing basic metabolic rate and thus even though we consume more food, we will be able to digest it and be slim. So the mantra to be slim is to eat a balanced diet and exercise.
