Changing season calls for a change in food habit. It is necessary to modify our food habits according to season. If we follow our diet as per the season then we will be fit and will not fall sick.
For example In winter we can eat fried food, milk, ghee and lentils as in winter season we can digest these foods. But they will not be suitable in spring as our digestive system becomes slow. In winter bitter food is harmful but in spring they become beneficial.
According to Indian Ayurveda and Unani sytem – our body is affected by vaat ( air), pitta ( soda) and kauf( mucus).it is said that vaat ( air, respiratory problems) become ineffective in autumn, similarly pitta ( digestion problems ) weakens in summer season and kauf ( cold nad cough) in spring.
Spring and autumn are considered as best seasons as they are comfortable. Spring season is known for bringing new life to plants and animals. In Indian Ayurveda spring season is considered good for brain and beauty. In spring season due to adequate sunlight the kauf doesn’t affect our body. It is advised to eat bitter food which help to take out the kauf from our body. Bitter food inclue, bittergourd, neem and beetroot. Also we should consume consume grains like wheat, rice and gram, in vegetables eating green vegetables like bottlegourd, fenugreek, brinjal, spongegourd, raddish, snakegourd, ginger, spinach is recommende. These are by nature has cooling effect on our body. In lentils masoor dal is recommended.
Avoid sour food, chutney and fried food. Avoid taking afternoon nap as It make the body heavy and lethargic. Avoid or eat in very little quantity rabi cultivated rice, bajra, black lentil, jaggery, milk, curd, khichdi, potao, oninon. Avoid meat as far as possible as meat takes time to digest.
Eat fruits like watermelon, mango, papaya daily or have sugarcane juice.
Later at the end of spring mostly we find more heat and thus people often have stomach upset or loss of apetitie. As the summer approaches ,It is important to keep the body hydrated so having Fruit juices, Glucose water, coconut water is recommended. Stop having protein enriched food like milk, chicken or mutton and use less or no oil in preparing food.
