Our food has a direct impact on our health. A particular food can make us healthy or can bring problems. It is important to know which food are good for us and which are not. Our food habits should be modified according to the prevailing health problem. Here are some general guidelines for people who have the following health problems –
Constipation – People having constipation should have limited, balanced and easily digestible diet. They should keep fast for one day in a week and should have only milk and fruits during their fast. They should include salads and green vegetables in their diet. Avoid having wheat products. Eating fruits such as papaya, watermelon, guava and banana is beneficial.
Acidity – people having acidity problem should have cold milk. They should eat banana, rice kheer and moong dal, They can have a banana after lunch & dinner everyday. At night before sleeping they should have a glass of cold milk with a table spoon of Ghee (clarified butter). They can eat ‘ toovar (arhar) dal ‘with rice(small portions only). They should avoid spicy, sour and fried food.
Indigestion – People having indigestion problems can have ayurvedic churan and home remedies for prolong relief. They should keep fast for one day in a week and should have milk and fruits only during their fast. They should have ‘khichdi’ or ‘dalia’ for lunch and should have lassi ( a drink made from curd mixed with sugar and water) after lunch. They should drink water after every one hour. They should avoid heavy eating and should have light food.
Dry Cough – People (including children) having dry cough can mix 1 tablespoon of Mulhati(Liquorice root) powder, in 2 cup water and boil it. When this mixture reduces to half, mix some palm candy(50gms) & cool this mixture. You can drink it in the morning and evening.
There are some general guidelines for all people having digestion problem.
- Have a glass of lassi(Yogurt) after lunch
- Have a glass of sweetened milk after dinner.
- Never have water after eating anything fried.
- Do not have water when your stomach is empty( usually when you get up in the morning).Have a biscuit or sweet and then have water.
