In China it is a common custom to offer foot massage during official meetings. In ancient Indian epics there are references of a fortune teller making prophecies based on a person’s feet. We stand and walk using our feet, but many of us do not make enough effort to pampering our feet.
When it comes to beauty care we mostly think of facial beauty, good physique and a flawless skin.Your feet always comes last.Some of us go for pedicure once in a month and think that is enough. Most of us even are not aware of various foot diseases such as athletes foot, fungal infection, corn, cracked ankles and broken nails. Let us learn a little about these diseases and how to prevent them.
Fungal infection is the most common foot problem. It starts with nails and slowly reach your cuticles. It is not cured promptly then your nail may have to be removed. It can also spread on your entire feet and cause swelling, redness and itching. If you have a fungal infection then contact your doctor immediately. To avoid fungal infection, it is important to keep your feet clean and dry. Make sure that water or sweat does not remain in between your toes for long. Avoid wearing socks for a long period of time, let your feet breath.
Cracked heel is another common problem.It may be quite painful and embarrassing. There are a lot of anti-crack creams available in the market. Cracked heel are caused due to lack of care and accumulation of dirt. Housewives for example work at home bare feet.Due to excessive pressure on their feet pad their heels develop small cracks that if not treated in time, develop into painful cracks. To avoid cracked heels, scrub your heels with a pumice stone or a foot filer regularly and apply foot cream before going to bed.
Broken nails or Under grown nails results when the nails are too long or when the nails have not been cut properly. If the nails have been broken inside the skin then do not try to cut them yourself, Visit a doctor or put a bandaid and leave it until it grows out.
Athlete’s foot (also known as ringworm of the foot and tinea pedis) is due to excessive wear and tear. The skin becomes dry and cracked. It is again important to keep your foot clean and moisturized to avoid athlete’s foot.
Corn develops due to prolong use of ill fitting shoes. To remove corn you can use a corn removing plaster. Avoid scratching them. To avoid corn wear only right fitting shoes.
You should get a pedicure done every 15 days. You can do pedicure at home too, just follow the following steps
Step 1 : Remove your old nail polish with nail polish remover.
Step 2 : Soak your feet in lukewarm water for 5 minutes.
Step 3 : Use a foot filer/Pumice Stone to scrub your feet using a mild soap for lubrication.
Step 4 : Cut your nails and wash your feet with water.
Step 5 : Apply a foot moisturizer and your favourite nail paint.
