I saw the dettol ad on TV which speaks about hand washing as healthy habit and how children can get 100% attendance(in their school) by following this healthy habit. Although it is a product advertisement but it actually speaks about a very small act. The act of washing our hands before eating which can keep us healthy. We do lot of activities by our hand and thus we get dirt and bacteria, washing hands before eating will ensure that these do not go into our body and make us sick
It is important to make children aware about healthy habits and these habits cannot be forced but practised The few habits which should be taught to children are –
Make them learn yoga. Yoga not only makes our body fit but also the postures and asanas help to increase our immunity. there are 3 parts of yoga- asana, pranayam and dhyan. However Yoga should be learned from a proper trainer as wrong postures can harm the body.
Make your child take bath everyday, and preferably in the morning. Bathing include scrubbing and cleaning daily . children spend more time outside home and thus dirt accumulates in their body. Bathing by just pouring water does not help.
Oil their hair every alternate day. Oiling not onlu improves blood circulation but also relax their mind.
Brush teeth properly. And brush twice a day , once in early morning and at night. Make them wash their mouth after eating food as the food particles which remain in tooth causes bacteria and may harm teeth.
Cut their nail every week, nails accumulate dirt and this dirt goes into their stomach every time they eat anything with hand. Never let your children cut their nail with their teeth. Some children have this tendency.
Never let your children roam bare feet outside as it accumulated dirt. Moreover they can get hurt by any glass pieces, throne or any sharp object laid on the ground.
Always make your children wear neat and clean clothes. The moment they make their cloths dirty, change them so they will learn to keep themselves clean. It is important to make them wear cloths as per season. In summer for example they should wear light colour & comfortable clothes and in winter they should wear woollen or warm clothes.
Make a habit of serving the food at a particular time and let them enjoy their food. Never make them eat their food in hurry as it might cause choking. Some children eat their food in hurry in so that they can go outside and play with their friends. Make them understand that they will get ample time to play.
Make them drink water. Most of the children do not like to drink water. Let them understand that water help in flushing out toxins. And thus they will be healthy, sometimes you can offer fruit juices, coconut water or soup to meet the need of water.
Never let them throw tantrum, make them understand about what they can get and what not and also tell them the reason.
Never get angry on them or do not shout at them.
Make them sensitive about the other members of family like old grandmother and grand father. Tell them to respect the old people.
