Today most of the health problems are due to high consumption of white food products. These are sugar, salt, refined flour, milk and coconut…..let us find out why?
Sugar – Sugar is the main cause behind lifestyle disease like diabetes. We daily take sugar in the form of tea, coffee, biscuit, sweets and chocolates. Sugar is a high calorie ingredient and when added to any food product, it increases the calorie content. Sugar can be substituted with jaggery. Although it has almost the same calorie content but jaggery also has iron, calcium and phosphorus.
Salt – Salt is very harmful for people having high blood pressure. Salt is essential for our survival but if it is taken in excess, it can cause high blood pressure. Avoid packaged snacks and food products like – salty biskits, pickles, tomato sauce and fast food items like Pizza, Burger and Pasta. You can substitute common salt with iodised salt that also has iodine, which is goof for development of brain.
Refined flour – Refined flour is used to prepare biscuits, cakes, pasteries, bread, pizza and sweets. Refined flour has less fibre. If you compare Wheat flour with Refined flour, you can see that wheat flour is brownish in color whereas refined flour is white and very soft, this is because refined flour has very less fibre. People who regularly eat food prepared with refined flour has regular constipation problem. You can opt for food products made of wheat flour like brown bread instead of white bread.
Milk fat – Milk is considered an ideal food , it has protein, vitamins , calcium and fat. Many health experts advise to use skimmed milk instead of full fat milk. The fat content of milk add to your daily calorie intake and thus full fat milk should be avoided by people who want to reduce or maintain a standard weight.
Some people have lactose intolerance and thus if they have milk, either they start throwing up or develop diarrhea. So people with Lactose intolerance should avoid milk in any form.Milk is consumed on a mass scale and hence the scope of adulteration is high. Due to adulteration, its packaging under unhygienic conditions, many health problems occur.
So always buy milk from a good brand and buy skimmed milk.
Coconut – Tender Coconut water is very nutritious but tender coconut and dry coconut has very high content of fat. Moreover coconut fat is directly absorbed by our body so people who use coconut oil or tender coconut in their cooking have more chances of developing obesity and heart problems.
